Ship history

America’s first highways were its great rivers, which enabled trade and transport to grow. Steam power and the ideas of Fulton and Livingston, early riverboat builders, made upstream navigation possible. The pursuit of speed inspired remarkable races. One of the most famous was the 1870 contest between Natchez and Robert E. Lee, from New Orleans to Saint Louis. Robert E. Lee won the 750-mile race in 3 days, 18 hours and 14 minutes.

The kit includes a solid wooden hull, turned smokestacks, photo-etched brass stanchions and decorations, white-metal windows, doors and paddle wheels, wooden planking for the deck and cabin, metal accessories, plans and detailed instructions.
