History of HMS Victory
The ship was built to the designs of Sir Thomas Slade at the Chatham Shipyard between 1759 and 1765. In the Battle of Trafalgar, under the leadership of Admiral Nelson, he won a decisive victory over the Franco-Spanish fleet, thereby ensuring Britain’s naval supremacy for nearly a century.
During the battle, Nelson was mortally wounded, but he lived to see his victory. HMS Victory thus forever became one of the most important symbols of the British Navy.

Approximately 6000 oak trees were used to build the real HMS Victory.
The ship’s 104 cannons could fire nearly 500 kg of iron balls at a time, making it one of the most powerful warships of the eighteenth century.
