Commissioned by Sir Tom Sopwith, it was built by Camper and Nicholson in Gosport, England, who used aeronautical technology to achieve its higher speed. Enterprise was built to Class J rules in 1930 and designed by the Starling Burgess Company. He won the America’s Cup in 1930, beating Shamrock. The innovation here was the aluminum mast.
