Ship history
Dorade is considered one of the first modern yachts. She came to Europe in 1931 for the Fastnet Race with Rod and Olin Stephens. Despite her slender, seemingly fragile appearance, she won the Transatlantic Race and her first Fastnet Race, followed by the Bermuda Race in 1932 and another Fastnet victory in 1933.
The Fastnet Race takes place every two years and is organised by the Royal Ocean Racing Club in association with the Royal Yacht Squadron in Cowes and the Royal Western Yacht Club in Plymouth. The Times described Dorade as the smallest and most wonderful ocean yacht ever built.
The kit includes a preformed ABS hull suitable for radio control, a wooden internal structure, deck planking, brass and wooden fittings, photo-etched brass parts, sailcloth, construction plans and detailed instructions.
