️ The Story of the Famous Smeaton’s Tower
Smeaton’s Tower is one of the most famous creations in the history of lighthouse construction. Designed by English engineer John Smeaton for Eddystone Reef, the tower began operation in 1759.
When designing the lighthouse, Smeaton used structural solutions that allowed the tower to withstand the extreme waves of the open sea and the weather. Its shape was also inspired by the stability of the trunk of an oak tree, which is why the tower is wider at the bottom and gradually narrows at the top.
For more than a century, the tower served navigation on the Eddystone Reef. When it was later necessary to build a new lighthouse, a large part of Smeaton’s tower was demolished and rebuilt on Plymouth Hoe, where it remains a recognized monument of British maritime and engineering heritage.
The lighthouse as a symbol
For centuries, the lighthouse has been a symbol of safety, guidance and homecoming. Its light helped sailors recognize dangerous coastlines and reefs, which is why lighthouses occupy a special place in maritime culture.
Thanks to this, a lighthouse decoration can be not only a spectacular home furnishing item, but also a symbolic gift. It can express direction, perseverance, or the idea that even in difficult circumstances there is a sure point.
Hand Painted Resin Decoration
The Smeaton’s Tower Lighthouse Decoration is made of resin and the surface is hand painted. The red and white stripes, the small windows, the upper round balcony and the lamp housing together give the model a characterful appearance.
Due to the manual painting, there may be minor differences in shades and details between the individual pieces. These differences are natural characteristics of hand-decorated products.
Two sizes to choose from
The Smeaton’s Tower decoration can be ordered in two different sizes , so it is easier to choose the right version for the placement.
